We will be married 40 years this year...and there has been many trials, afflictions, joys, storms and red sea crossings, but the Lord has carried us to the other side in many ways...I see Marriage like prayer..the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of Prayer has been sent here to make us Like Christ as we yield to the work of the Cross and his love. Oneness and Love will come only when we know each other through pure hearts tiled by prayer. If our prayers are to be fruitful, our marriage...if they are going to be heard by God, then prayer (marriage) must be like a plow. It must become a discipline of work that is consistent, and regular and honest, even when it doesn’t seem fruitful. As we remain diligent and faithful, our prayers will produce fruit. God has promised it. I know that if an old farmer had quit plowing after finding that first big rock, his family would have starved to death.
If prayer, (our marriage) is ever neglected for multiple seasons in a Christian’s life, beginning the practice of prayer, or returning to prayer may not guarantee immediate “goose bump” blessings. Prayer is just like a plow. Praying can seem much like work (Mark 9:20-29).Prayer..Marriage ...is work..Prayer brings humility..Prayer brings you to the audience of one who will speak to your heart..first and out of the love devotion and comittment you will long to do as your Father asks.. Your desires will be His desires which in return your marriage will remain as you abide in the vine with Christ, you will long to abide with your mate. In the spiritual soil of the untilled heart, it will reveal pain, sin, weakness, and every other “unexpected surprise” one could imagine. Victory over that buried stump, or hidden stone, may seem impossible, but practice of prayer in the presence of our Lord is the only way to victory. Marriage must be tilled through prayer, spending time with Him quietly, waiting so that we can have honest hearts and healed hearts becoming one in spirit and in truth. This will bring a joy to our lives and an atmosphere of supernatural that nothing will be impossible which will bring hope to our children and others through the soil of which they will journey. Marriage is work..but being prepared as the Bride is great reward.

Thanks Daniel. Relationships are such a mind-field, you know? Really are. We have to do it God's way. Gotta do it HIs way if we are going to live a life with any amount of meaning. It will be 17 years of marriage for my wife and I this July. These 6 things have been very important for us.

I would also add, make sure to confront in a timely manner. Allowing a problem to linger will make the confrontation more difficult and may cause the confrontee to be offended. "Why didn't you say something sooner?" Having the hard talk is easier with a single dandelion than it is with a field of ragweed.

Great post! I would add checking personal motives to my list. Stepping back and asking myself why I need to address the situation. Is it to help the other person or because I am personally upset at the person or situation. Proverbs 12:10, "Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs."

Hey Daniel. Thanks for reading this and commenting. It is an absolute necessity that we live a supernatural life. I appreciate you inspiring us to live on the edge.
